Little did I know I would hear these phrases over and over again.
“Oh yes, I know someone that has fibromyalgia!”
“have you tried acupuncture?”
“have you talked to your doctor about medications like on the commercials?”
“You just need to keep moving, and forget about it”
“have you tried smoking weed?”
“You just need to exercise more!”
“You’re too young for that!”
“Yeah, some of those issues come with getting older!”
“How do you live like that?”
“What is it like to have fibromyalgia?”
For the last 6 years, these are the majority of the responses I get when I say, “I have fibromyalgia.”
I wish it was different. I wish I didn’t have to reveal a “secret” that I hide behind my smile. Sometimes, I don’t want to talk about how many milligrams of the medication I take daily. I don’t want to talk about how I make through the day. Trust me, I don’t want to be in pain. Trust me, I don’t want to cancel plans, or say no, I can’t do that! I have a team of doctors behind me. They will hopefully guide me down the right path.
I am more than my medications! I am more than my pain! I am more than my diagnosis!
